The Requirement
The brick arches in this listed church had suffered from minor movement and spreading which had resulted in cracking.
Mortar was being displaced from the joints and dropping onto the floor below.
We were asked to assess the damage and design a remedial scheme to rstrain further cracking and conceal the existing cracks, with minimal disturbance to the fabric of the building.
The Solution
We designed a scheme of QuadraFix masonry reinforcement to install into the brick arches.
This involved cutting out the mortar joints between the bricks to install our stainless steel helical reinforcing bedded in our own cementitious grout.
The existing cracks were then carefully raked out and all slots were repointed to match the surrounding mortar.
